Den medeltida staden \u00e4r v\u00e4l bevarad trots bombningar under andra v\u00e4rldskrigets slutfas med flera ringmurar och porttorn. Den medeltida k\u00e4rnan best\u00e5r egentligen av tv\u00e5 med en h\u00f6gre bel\u00e4gen v\u00e4stra del och en n\u00e5got l\u00e4gre \u00f6stra del som b\u00e5da har varit och till stor del fortfarande \u00e4r omg\u00e4rdade av murar. Flera medeltida byggnader finns kvar i staden bland annat i form av r\u00e5dhuset och ett antal handelshus. Annars m\u00e4rks en byggnadsepok under 1700-talet i klassicistisk stil och enstaka inslag under 1800- och 1900-talen. H\u00e4r finns \u00e4ven sp\u00e5r av svensktiden p\u00e5 1600-talet. Svenska ambassaden ligger i ett vackert palats i centrala staden. \u00c4ven det Lettiska parlamentet \u00e4r inrymt i ett palats i den medeltida staden. Runt den medeltida staden l\u00f6per st\u00f6rre avenyer och parker som ger ett lummigt intryck av staden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\"
