P\u00e5 b\u00e5da sidor om massivet finns parallella bergsryggar och mellanliggande dalar. Ganska stora delar av bergsslsuttningarna t\u00e4cks av bokskogar som ger skydd \u00e5t en rik fauna. Bland annat finns n\u00e5gra par bj\u00f6rn som gr\u00e4nsar till populationen i Abruzzo.
