Omr\u00e5det \u00e4r skyddat i nationalparken Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft och best\u00e5r huvudsakligen av \u00f6arna Darss, Zingst, Bock och Ummanz samt v\u00e4stra delen av den stora \u00f6n R\u00fcgen med innanf\u00f6r liggande laguner och strand\u00e4ngar. Omr\u00e5det \u00e4r bland annat k\u00e4nt f\u00f6r det stora antal tranor som rastar h\u00e4r under v\u00e5ren men fr\u00e4mst h\u00f6sten. Antalet \u00f6kar f\u00f6r varje \u00e5r och har nu n\u00e5tt \u00f6ver 70 000 tranor under oktober m\u00e5nad. H\u00e4r finns flera naturcenter med information och vid Gross Mohrdorf finns ett trancenter. N\u00e5gra kilometer s\u00f6derut ligger en observations och matningsplats f\u00f6r tranorna d\u00e4r man kommer n\u00e4ra och kan studera f\u00e5glarna. Vid mitt bes\u00f6k den 5:e oktober var det nationalparksdag vid informationscentret p\u00e5 Zingst dit bes\u00f6karna transporterades i turistt\u00e5g fr\u00e5n parkeringen i Zingst. \u00c4ven \u00f6n Ummanz bes\u00f6ktes och d\u00e4r fanns \u00f6vernattningsplatser f\u00f6r tranorna. Annars \u00e4r det fr\u00e4mst i bukten s\u00f6der om Ostseeheilbad Zingst och p\u00e5 \u00f6arna Pramort och Bock som tranorna \u00f6vernattar f\u00f6r att sedan flyga ut i odlingslandskapet
